Biography:
Anna Maria Guz is a Clinical Naturopath, Nutritionist, Medical Herbalist, Scientist and Lecturer with over 20 years of clinical experience. Anna’s childhood passion for science, nutrition, and herbal medicine led her to complete degrees in Chemistry and Physics, Food Technology and Human Nutrition and Naturopathy. She stays current with functional medicine research through extensive reading, webinars, conferences, and lecturing in traditional and evidence-based medicine. She is currently completing her second Master in Mind and Brain Sciences at The University of Sydney. With degrees in both Science and Natural Medicine, Anna draws from her experience, skills and education to find the best solutions for each patient’s health and life issues.

Autism is a unique disorder that reveals both challenges and extraordinary gifts. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presents complex neurodevelopmental patterns that often extend beyond conventional treatment paradigms. As interest grows in integrative and complementary medicine, new therapeutic pathways are emerging. This presentation explores the evolving role of natural medicine in autism care, blending clinical insight with current research to highlight the potential of botanicals and nutritional interventions now gaining recognition in peer-reviewed studies. Anna will also examine the underlying biochemistry of ASD, including the role of neurotransmitter imbalances, gut-heart-brain axis dysfunction, and key nutrient deficiencies that may influence neurodevelopment and behaviour. The session will begin with a brief history of autism, followed by current prevalence statistics and an overview of diagnostic methods. A review of contributing factors particularly the impact of environmental toxins and heavy metals will provide context for a deeper understanding of the condition. A central focus is the integration of natural medicine into autism care. Drawing on recent research, the presentation will explore herbal therapies, dietary strategies and holistic interventions. Real-life case studies will demonstrate how these approaches are applied in clinical settings, offering personalized, meaningful support for individuals with autism. A comparative discussion of conventional versus natural treatments will highlight the strengths of a blended, multidisciplinary model.
